Saba is caring for her older sister’s children after her unexpected death. She is attracted to a school teacher but cannot open her mind to him for the children’s sake. Saba’s heart is heavy with the burden of tradition that she might have to accept her brother-in-law’s proposal. Saba’s conflicted emotions are impressed upon us as vividly as the aching beauty of the landscape and the vast wilderness she lives in.
