Paulo narrates and performs his own history – a hired killer during Portugal’s civil war, a member of a death squad targeting ETA officials, and a CIA mercenary in El Salvador. Throughout the film, the accuser and accused are asked to change positions. When the director asks how much a man’s life is worth, Paulo responds, “A man like me or men like them?” Here information and documents are not as important as how one plays out and affirms history as his own personal truth.
