In Algiers we meet Nassima, a forgotten heroine of the Algerian revolution who tells us her story of women in the war – her fight for an independent Algeria. The filmmaker returns every year to visit Nassima, and through her accounts, Guessoum reconstructs a part her own history and begins to understand Algeria today via the past. 10949 Women is foremost a story about women, but it also tries to understand vital questions: What is freedom, and how much do we have to pay to get it?
